GlobeVancouver Island Marble is Unique
It is from a continent that formed far away from North America. Three hundred million years ago a continent formed below the Equator known as "Wrangalia" that over time, with the movement of the Earth's tectonic plates, crunched into North America. map
Over the last 90 million years, it folded under the continental plate and the last vestages remain in the Wrangle Mountains in Alaska and the two big islands off the coast of British Columbia, Haida Gwaii (aka.Queen Charlotte Islands) and Vancouver Island where we quarry today in two separate locations.
grave markerchurchFor many years, the quiet grave stones carved from the local marble lay in the forrest, close to the old church at Friendly Cove near Tahsis on Vancouver Island, BC. It wasn't until 1996 that the Zanatta family who were quarrying Black marble already lower down the island, scouted the sources of these gravetones and made arrangements to start extracting the beautiful white and grey marble. whaleSoon they were producing blocks and slabs and all kinds of products from these beautiful marbles.
The area where these marbles are found is the area where the famous whale Luna lived.
We continue to quarry marble with utmost regard and respect for the local nature.
